So, here are my six recommendations of food spots ranging from restaurants and cafes to hawker stalls, where you can enjoy free delivery with a small minimum spend of less than S$50.

Butcher The Burger Bar 

You know a burger’s worth the try when it boldly claims that your life would be better after it. Butcher The Burger Bar offers indulgent burgers and classic western fare that are all pretty impressive. I mean, you could probably tell from its name, that we’re talking about some pretty heavy burgers here.

Their burgers feature a thick and heft slab of patty slathered with a heap of sauces and melting cheese, all encased in glossy handmade buns. They’ve got an extensive burger range, featuring the Butcher Classic Burger (S$10.80), your common Bacon Cheese Burger (S$11.80), Truffle Shuffle Burger (S$11.80) and more. All burgers are served with fries, so there’s no need to top up for them, although their Nacho Cheese fries, Mentaiko Fries, and Parmesan Cheese Fries (S$6 each) are all sides that you wouldn’t want to miss. Other mains and sides include their Rosti (S$9.80), Butcher Mid Wings (S$6), and even Impossible Chicken (S$6)—as a nod to inclusivity.

Genius Central 

While sceptics may steer away from food at a co-working space, the nosh at Genius Central proves otherwise. Serving up a plant-based menu with mostly whole food ingredients, they make sustainable and cleaner eating a joy.

If you love a colourful plate, their Happiness Bowl (S$18) is everything you want. At the centre lies their roasted butternut squash that’s eye-catching with a slight char, surrounded by various vegetables and healthy grains. Other than their Longevity Bowls that boast all things health, you can also enjoy mains that are less greasy and artery-clogging than the usual fare. Their House Hot Smoked Salmon Risotto (S$22) consists of Arborio risotto, white wine, and nutritional yeast mixed in creamy cashew sauce, amidst other ingredients like sunflower seeds and various veggies. They’ve got a long list of mains, pizzas, and a whopping seven sections of drinks for you to choose from—everything that fuels the genius in you. For a creamy yet spicy perk-me-up, I’ll take the Ginger Latte (S$7) any day.

Blk 24 Sin Ming Hainanese Chicken Rice

It’s not every day where you chance upon a chicken rice stall account on Instagram, but you know it’s good when it’s filled with oversaturated photos showcasing rows of full chickens, plates of our favourite dish, and screenshots of reviews from raw Whatsapp conversations. Blk 24 Sin Ming Hainanese Chicken Rice is exactly its moniker—a stall in a coffeeshop at Blk 24 in Sin Ming estate, run by a humble husband and wife team which often spots long queues at lunchtime.

Their plates of steamed and roasted chicken are well-cooked, brined, and of a generous portion. Each slice is relatively thick, stretching across the diameter of the plate. Shame on those with thin chicken slices that occupy a mere quarter of the plate. For this dish, you’ll expect nothing less than a glossy, oiled sheen on its skin and meat, and they live up to standards. Their chicken looks and is utterly juicy, even for chicken breast—the choice that differentiates between the supposed true fans of chicken rice and health enthusiasts. But any part of the chicken is done well at this stall, as many reviews say.

Lauded for their great service, modest prices and mouth-watering lemongrass chicken, the Ministry of Mookata offers sincere Thai cuisine that extends beyond their mookata menu. Even though we can’t indulge in our favourite supper of grilling marinated meat and slurping on Maggi, fret not, their delivery menu offers Rice Bentos consisting of marinated meat that will remind you of the mookata experience.

The Rice Bentos, include a range of chicken variations like Teriyaki Chicken Rice (S$5.80), Lemongrass Chicken Rice (S$5.80), Tomato Chicken Rice (S$5.80), and more. These are their popular ingredients in their mookata, so you can enjoy grilled goodness already prepacked for you. Yassin Kampung 

Priding themselves in their authentic kampung dishes, Yassin Kampung offers seafood and zi char styled dishes infused with Singaporean flavours and nostalgia that reminisces our origins. In this populated seafood restaurant market, Yassin Kampung is hard to miss, as a well-known go-to for locals residing in the north, and travellers passing through the Causeway.

Within their extensive menu lies a number of Chef’s recommendations. Feeling both adventurous and nostalgic? Try their Kampung Durian Chicken (S$23.54), where kampung durian refers to wild durians from the jungle—known to be potent and delicious. To amp up the spice level in your meal, the Sichuan Mala Fragrant Fish (S$44.73) boasts a sumptuous choice with ominous red peppercorns, peanuts, and more in a shallow bed of tempting chilli oil. Their crustacean range of seafood, prawns, crabs, and mussels spot a couple of recommended delights as well, so don’t miss out on these menu mainstays. My personal choice would be the Kampung Satay Platter (S$10.59), a recommended dish that encapsulates the kampung spirit of warmth and sharing. Chew off the thick and oil-glossed chicken and beef skewers with your family, and enjoy the night.

Hock Seng Pau
