As a lifelong Yishunite, Northpoint has always felt like a second home to me. Back in primary school, I would head to the mall everyday after class to shop for snacks or to have a quick lunch with my classmates and friends. Over the years, Northpoint has expanded into Northpoint City, one of the biggest malls in Singapore with two wings and over 1.3 million square feet in space.

Of course, Northpoint City’s size means that it can fit a huge variety of restaurants, cafes and eateries to satisfy all the foodies who forage into the North. Here is a list of 10 places to check out in Northpoint City when you are feeling hungry.

1. POCHA! Korean Street Dining (#B1-181)

Located in the basement of Northpoint City, Pocha! is Singapore’s first K-food street dining concept. You’ll spot it when you look out for its bright red storefront and vibrant neon signage.

Pocha! adopts a communal-like style, with its menu being split into Mains, Rice, Jjigae, Noodles, Sides and Drinks. Classic Korean dishes include Bibimbab (S$8.90), Tteokbokki (S$10.90) and Jjajangmyeon (S$12.90).

Get the Kkochi if you are a fan of skewered meat. Each set consists of three sticks, with options like Pork Belly Zig Zag (S$5.90), Beef Belly Zig Zag (S$6.50) and Chicken Cocktail (S$5.50). Each piece of meat is extremely tender with a good ratio of fat to meat.

Why not opt for some Jjigae, aka, Korean stews? The Sundubu (S$14.90) includes ingredients like minced pork, tofu, clams, zucchini and enoki mushrooms, with a good depth of rich and savoury flavours, and a pleasant pepperiness that lifts up the entire soup.

Looking for a plant-based option to dine at while shopping at Northpoint City? The Kind Bowl offers vegan Vietnamese classics. The quaint space is located in the basement of the mall near one of the entrances by the MRT station, with a small yet enticing menu.

Choose from their mains, priced at S$10.80 each, like The Kind Pho, No Crab Noodle and Crazy Baguette, a vegan bánh mì. Their two sides, the Tropical Salad or Summer Roll, cost S$4.20 each.

I decided to opt for the set meal, which came with a main, a side and a drink. I elected for the Royal Spicy pho and a Summer Roll as my side. The set meal was priced at S$13.80, and I topped up S$1 to upgrade my drink to a Pomegranate Detox.

The Royal Spicy pho was incredibly impressive as it was bursting with lots of umami flavour. It was also topped with a variety of plant-based ingredients, like mushrooms, beancurd and even plant-based mock beef.

I would consider Tokyo Kitchen to be one of Northpoint City’s more hidden restaurants, as it is tucked away deep within the second floor of the South Wing. This Japanese-Western restaurant offers fusion dishes like Teppan Napolitan (S$10.90), a spaghetti dish served on a teppan plate, and Mega Chicken Cutlet Omurice (S$15.90).

Other options are the Asakusa Style Chicken Rice Set (S$16.90), Beef Steak Rice Set (S$18.90) and Oyako Chicken Toji Udon (S$10.90).

Personally, my sweet tooth drew me to the selection of beautiful tarts displayed at the front of the store. Priced at S$10 per slice, the flavours available included Mango Strawberry, Chocolate Banana, Berry Berry, Mixed Fruits, Strawberry Tiramisu and Mango.

I got the Chocolate Banana Tart, which was piled high with cream and generous layers of soft bananas. The buttery and fragrant tart base especially outstanding to me.

If tarts aren’t your choice dessert, Tokyo Kitchen also has Espuma Waffles (S$12.90) in the varieties of Berry Berry, Chocolate Banana, Mango Yogurt and Lychee Rose.

Originating from Taiwan, Devil Chicken is a spot you must visit if you are a die-hard fan of Taiwanese fried chicken cutlets. Located in the basement of Northpoint City, this takeaway stall offers not just fried chicken, but side dishes like truffle fries and fried button mushrooms.

Their signature Devil Chicken (S$8.50) comes in four flavours: Original, Spicy, Plum and Seaweed. You can also choose from three spice levels if you pick Spicy. Meanwhile, their other products include Crispy Chicken Skin (S$5.50) and Truffle Tater Tots (S$5.50).

To get a taste of Devil Chicken’s different offerings, why not get one of their bundles? I got Bundle A (S$12), which came with a chicken cutlet and the choice of Chicken Skin, Truffle Tater Tots, Sea Salt Fries or Truffle Fries. I elected to try the Truffle Tater Tots, which were crispy with a strong truffle aroma.

The Devil Chicken cutlet was crispy and incredibly thick with a tender interior. Devil Chicken does not offer cutting services to retain the juiciness of the chicken, making it even more satisfying to chomp into the gigantic cutlets.
